Raffy and I Over The Years

Hello everyone , hope all is well in your part of the world.

Last Monday was a rather eventful day in our household. The day started with John having two basal cell carcinomas removed at the specialist clinic (hopefully all is well on that score ).

Later in the day Raffy went off to the groomer for his Summer hair cut but when John went to collect him something was very much awry as he could not weight bear on his hind legs . I knew this was extremely serious so an urgent vet appointment was made for an assessment. He left with a Fetanyl patch for pain relief and a referral for a Ct scan in Hobart as there are no facilities here for pets. After a very anxious night for both Raffy and us and after a morning consultation with our local vet we drove down to Hobart for the CT scan and a consultation with a veterinary surgeon. Long story short he had a compressed disc in his spine that was pressing on his spinal column. After a long conversation with the vet we decided that his best chance of recovery was to have spinal surgery the next day .We were told that with the surgery there was a 95% chance of a full recovery so as hard as it was we left Raffy in the care of the specialist care clinic in Hobart and drove home to an empty house.

Raffy underwent surgery the next day and we were kept well informed by the veterinary surgeon . We were able to bring him home last Friday but the road to full recovery will be a slow one but we are hopeful he will be back to his cheeky self over time.

At present John and I are honing our pet nursing and physio skills so no outfit shots this post but as Raffy has featured on the blog many times since joining our family in October 2014 I am sharing a few of those today.

This was Raffy’s very first blog appearance as a 10 week old puppy back in October , 2014 . If my memory serves me correctly this was taken at Deloraine on his first car trip to meet John’s parents.

Raffy posing beautifully with me on the steps of the Summer house back in the Summer of 2016.

This was Raffy and I playing in our lounge room in a post about my various collections and was in April 2018 . I had changed hair colour the month before. One thing I also realised on looking back at the photos is that I still wear most of the clothing.

This was in April , 2024 when I still had my short , grey hair which by the way I still am on the fence about going back to. Everything I am wearing here are still favorite’s.

This is the current situation for Raffy as he is to spend his days resting comfortably enclosed in this borrowed pet cage most of the time , other than for his physio and toilet breaks , for the next month to allow his spine to heal completely.

Oh my goodness Jill, it”s awful when a pet becomes ill. I know Raffy will get the best nursing and pampering ever!

As always you have gorgeous and well used clothing. That’s so good for the planet.

I do hope Raffy heals soon.

Thank you Penny it was such a shock as I believe it was an avoidable accident . John and I are doing our best on the nursing front and he is getting lots of attention.
I know you and I share a love of dressing and wearing our clothes for many years.

Very best wishes for his complete recovery.

Like the grey hair but a softer style may be nicer!

Thank you so very much Nancy for your good wishes for Raffy’s recovery. We did visit the groomers and unfortunately, they don’t have CCTV and have denied that anything happened. That said we have our suspicions but can’t prove anything.

I hope his recovery goes quite quickly and well. I’m sure you and John are perfect nurses. It’s so hard when they don’t feel well. Thank goodness you found the answers quite quickly.

Thank you so very much Elizabeth , Raffy is improving every day but we know it will take time for him to recover full mobility. Sorry to hear about your cat , it is so hard when they are not well.

What a worrying time! Hope Raffy continues to make a good recovery. Interesting to see your photos with him, and the one with grey hair. This is something I’m mulling over.

Thank you so very much Gail , Raffy is doing well but there is still a lot of recovery to happen. It is a big decision for those of us that have always coloured our hair.

Thank you so very much Vix for your good wishes for John and Raffy. Since my last post John has had his stitches out and received a good report. We travelled to Hobart yesterday to see the vet surgeon , she was pleased with his progress but there is still aways to go.
