A Few Favourites and New Year Plans

Hello everyone and Happy New Year to all, may 2023 be filled with good health and happiness.

Apologies for my blogging absence of late due to a mix of work and family commitments and computer problems thrown into the mix.

On the work front Christmas was rather busy and I worked much more than usual , possibly for the last time as retirement is on the horizon.

We enjoyed a lovely family Christmas . Starting with my sister Lyn joining us for a brunch of croissants and fresh fruits , accompanied by a glass of proseco.

Later in the day we welcomed  Zac , Sarah , Harry and Hamish from Hobart and Callum and his partner Georgie flew in from Melbourne .  After the opening of gifts we sat down to our family traditional dinner.

In mid December I had several enjoyable days in Melbourne , catching up with friends and enjoying several exhibitions , including the Alexander Mc Queen at the NGV. Photos of this to come shortly now that I have time to edit them

Taken on my way into the Lume for the Monet and friends multi -sensory exhibition . It was an interesting experience immersing yourself in the art works. I am wearing old favourites , Navy Rundholz skirt and denim tailcoat and striped turban.

Melbourne was dressed for Christmas , I was particularly taken with these black and white beauties adorning the Chanel store.

Looking back over outfits from last year confirm that skirts and jackets are still my favourite wardrobe pieces and know that won’t change anytime soon.

Both of these skirts from Rundholz were investment pieces that will be worn for many years to come. The velvet floral jacket by Kenzo was probably my best ever recycle find , while the black Lisa Ho coat is now at least 15 years old.  I couldn’t agree more with this quote from Vivienne Westwood , ” Buy less , choose well and make it last”.

On the top of my list of New Year plans is travel. In fact John and I are off to Europe at the end of March and will spend nine weeks touring through France , Spain and Portugal , finishing off with a few days in both Paris and London.  We are visiting some of our special places , Lisbon and Paris but exploring new ones too.

So between then and now lots of research to do as we are independent travellers but that to me is almost as much fun as the travel.

That’s all for now , take care .

Joining Gail at Is This Mutton for Wow on Wednesday and Nancy for Fancy Friday.

That sure sounds like a wonderful trip to Europe! We are planning some trips but waiting on airline tickets to be what I want them to be: traveling with 4 kids has be looking for budget friendly prices. I love those 2 jackets of yours and your skirts are amazing too. Love how you wear your pieces over and over. Like you, trying to make better buying decisions and finding the right pieces that will last.

Thank you Mirielle , I am so looking forward to travelling again. I fully understand the need to find the best fares when travelling with a family. I have always tried to buy what I love and wear over and over for many years. Sometimes it pays to pay more as the quality is so much better and the garments last.

Happy New Year! I can’t wait to see your McQueen pics – big fan – and I’m just jaw-dropped at your wonderful looks, particularly that gorgeous Kenzo (also a fan of his and have a few pieces) jacket. The skirts are amazing. I am rather envious of your upcoming vacation, but living on the west coast of Canada means it takes me forever to get to Europe, sigh.

Looking forward to our trip although not the flying time , many hours in the air.

Lovely post Jill. Your Christmas sounds similar to ours, which us surprised because we usually read that Aussies are on the beach (but appreciate you’re in a different geographical area). I love your skirt and jacket looks. And the Monet multi sensory experience looks amazing. I’ve booked a holiday in France which includes a visit to Monet’s Garden. If you have time when you visit London Penny and I would love to see you.

Thank you so much Gail . Christmas on the beach is probably more common in our northern states as it is often very hot there. Enjoy your France trip and Monet’s garden, I have visited in Spring and Autumn , both wonderful. I would love to catch up with both you and Penny , am finalising London details.

Lovely post Jill with the usual iconic pieces. You are such a role model for me as out-of-the-ordinary skirts and jackets are also my thing. And now I’m ready to go out and about with some skirts of my own. I absolutely adore that Kenzo jacket too.

Your travel plans sound totally amazing – I have a cruise booked where I can dress up to my heart’s content!!! And you know that I absolutely echo Gail’s request – you’d love the V&A. We could meet there???

Happy New Year. I always enjoy your posts and I really love to see how you style your beautiful pieces. You are like a work of art, dressing in a new frame and a new background with each picture! The floral velvet coat is just stunning. I appreciate you tip-toeing through the narcissus to get that shot! 🙂
