First Day Of Winter

Hello everyone , hope all is well in your part of the world.

Yesterday was officially the first day of Winter down here and to celebrate the weather gods turned on a damp , grey and cool day. In between showers John and I with Raffy simply ventured across the road from home to St. Georges Square to take some photos before the last of the fallen oak leaves disappeared.

It has been a bit of a difficult week for poor little Raffy after him doing so well . At this stage it is unclear if he had injured himself or maybe it was arthritis setting in with the damp weather. Fortunately he is now much better although not quite back to where he was.

On another note, John is scheduled to have hip replacement surgery on July 3rd.

My outfit for the day consisted of a Sarah Paccini skirt , Rundolz jacket , vintage chocolate furry cape , vintage velvet hat , sunnies , leopard print gloves and suede Saenz boots.

The skirt is an unusual colour , not sure if you would call it dark olive green or licorice and was bought new for my eldest son’s wedding back in 2016 . In the spirit of no longer keeping things for special occasions and appreciating every day and heeding the advice of the Elegant Stylist to just wear the damn clothes this skirt will once again make many appearances .

After taking the photos in the park, we all went for a walk along High Street , which has some beautiful old homes and gardens . I always admire this one with its beautiful entrance and topiary trees. It is an absolute picture in Spring with flowering cherry trees and azaleas.

Whenever I take photos when we travel, doors and interesting gates and fences usually feature heavily so just because I walk past these on a daily basis my camera was still drawn to them . These rather magnificent examples front Hatherley House , an Italianate villa built in 1830,that comprises eight bedrooms and six bathrooms and has recently been offered for sale.

A cheeky shot of this rather wonderful house and garden taken through the sunflower gates . I know nothing about these gates but they always make me smile.

I will finish up the tour of the neighbourhood with our house that we have lived in since 1977 .

    Hi Jill
Oh I do love winter clothes. And yours in particular. Are you tempted by that house now on sale?

Lovely skirt and jacket. You look so good in them 🙂

I hope Raffy is soon feeling better. Arthritis is not fun. Wishing your husband the best for his hip replacement! As always, you look amazing! I love how you have adopted the attitude of nothing being off limits. I’m trying that, too. Your home is gorgeous, Jill! Here we call all the wooden scrolling “gingerbread.” Do you call it that, too? Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Thank you so very much Marsha , it is liberating wearing what you love regardless of the occasion . Raffy seems to be doing much better so we suspect an arthritis flare up. I do love our home even though its upkeep is a lot of work . The wooden scrolling is called gingerbread style here too.

Looking very svelte and stylish in your Winter attire, Jill!
Those sunflower gates are marvellously Arts & Crafts in style and I love the Greco-Roman architecture of Hatherley House. Your house is absolutely beautiful!
Sending love to Raffy and John. My total hip replacement (in 2006) changed my life, I hope his is equally liberating. xxx

Thank you so very much Vix for your kind comment. I had often wondered about the era of the sunflower gates as I always admire them. Hatherley House is certainly impressive .
Raffy and John both say thank you , I am hoping John will recover his mobility to do the things he enjoys again.

Thank you so very much Ann . Raffy seems to be much better now so maybe it was just arthritis playing up. John says thank you.
I am rather fond of wearing capes in Winter.

Thank you so very much Elizabeth. Yes the time is now to enjoy our clothes and not save things . Maybe its because we love the small details that we photograph these things. Raffy seems to be much better so it was an artritis flare up. xx
