Just A Stroll in The Park

Hello everyone , hope all is well in your part of the world.

Apologies it has been a tad long between posts . I have had a few shifts at the shoe shop while someone was on holiday and I have been rather busy trying and not necessarily succeeding on getting the garden back to some sort of order and now that we can leave Raffy for a short time we even went out to dinner to our local Greek restaurant.

Yesterday was one of those magical Autumn days so a visit to one of my favourite spots , our City Park. The park was established in the 1820’s by the Launceston Horticultural Society as a botanical gardens and then handed over to the Launceston City Council in 1863. Co-incidently my mother was a Life member of the Horticultural Society and was very involved with the seasonal flower shows helping with the catering for lunches and afternoon teas. I remember being roped in as an extra pair of hands in my teenage years to wait on tables.

A view over the park showing the Children’s Jubilee Fountain which has an interesting history . Back in 1887 the children of Launceston were invited to contribute their pennies to a fountain . The fountain was to stand at the entrance gates to the park as a monument to their generosity and to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. As it turned out the fountain was actually installed for Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee ten years later at the entrance gates but was moved to its current location eleven years later as according to a council report of the time the mischievous local children were throwing water around and making a mess . Fancy children playing with water and making a mess.

The fountain was cast at MacFarlanes Saracen Foundry in Glasgow and was chosen from a catalogue and has recently undergone a full restoration.

The dahlias were in full bloom yesterday with so many colours and interesting shapes. Peeking out behind them is the John Hart Conservatory that was completely rebuilt last year as the previous one built in 1932 developed some fairly major structural problems.

Having not ventured out much during Raffy’s recovery period I am making the most of our sunny Autumn days to enjoy wearing my clothes before they are put away until next Spring. I started with the coffee coloured tulle skirt from Rundholz , adding a white frilled Moyuru blouse and a soft and pretty Mos Mosh jacket . The soft colours are a bit of a change for me as I usually prefer stronger colours. I also carried the pale green Ferragamo bag , possibly one of my best ever recycle purchases.

I really liked this rather arty shot showing the details of the jacket with its pretty floral sprigs .  It also shows beautifully the hat , made by Tasmanian milliner Susan McCarthur that I have owned for several years and is one of my favourite special hats. Wearing the hat again has convinced me that growing my hair back to the bob was the right decision.

I also donned these cream brogues with their matching tassel that have lurked in my closet for way too long. I paired them with a rather pretty pair of sheer pale green socks bought at a fancy Melbourne shop a while ago.

Finishing up this post showing the modern extension and renovation of the Albert Hall , which is an original Victorian building and as you can imagine the modernist works have garnered a lot of debate .

It did feel good to enjoy dressing up again and playing in my wardrobe. I will follow the motto of Jordan @theelegantstylist on Instagram and just wear the damn clothes because waiting for that perfect moment makes no sense at all as it may never appear .

Have a wonderful Easter .

I love your outfit—you look amazing in the light colors, and the longer bob. Beautiful soft jacket, with a hat, socks, and bag that complements it perfectly. I’m always amazed at your creativity!

I need to wear the damn clothes, too, but some days, I just want to stay in my sweats and be comfy! This outfit is so fun and spring-like to me (as I hope for spring to well and truly arrive). I love your hats, and I think your hairstyle does compliment them so well. Interesting to read about the fountain and why it was moved…those nasty children! Adults sometimes forget what it was like to be young, right? I hope you’re having a marvelous autumn, Jill!

Thank you so very much Marsha , you are right the colours are more Spring than Autumn. I do hope you enjoy some Spring weather soon. I have always enjoyed wearing hats and they do work better on me with longer hair. Glad you enjoyed the story about the fountain , what did they expect children to do.

Oh wow Jill, that is quite a change of colour shades from your usual black but the whole outfit is quite lovely. And so is the park. What a beautiful day and what a what a picture you are in those superb surroundings.

Thank you so very much Penny. So true the muted tones are definitely a change from my usual black or brighter colours. It was one of these beautiful Autumn days and with the various renovations it was time to visit City Park.

Thank you so very much Vix . The bag is probably one of my best recycle buys and even though I don’t wear the hat much I absolutely love it.

Thank you so very much Gail , the lighter tones are a change for me but good to visit now and again. The gardens are always a peaceful place to visit and the dahlias always put on a good show.
