Hello everyone , hope this finds everyone well in your part of the world.
Last week after a doctor’s visit and on my walk into town to collect my prescription I made a detour to see Tania at Red Fox Vintage . Since my last visit Tania had come into possession of several interesting hats from an elderly lady who was a milliner and parting with her hats as she was entering a nursing home. Resistance was futile and I came home with six of her hats . Tania did admit that she really bought them just for me , she knows me well.
Of course I just had to create outfits around my new old hats and will show three in this post as the other three are Summer ones. The first hat is a wool in dark green with chocolate brown contrasts. I decided to play with a mixture of dark tones – the tiered M.Dainty skirt from last Summer and the black Dogstar long shirt topped with a little chocolate brown jacket by Animale , another Red Fox recycle buy a while ago.
Spring is in full swing down here as the magnolia tree suggests. The magnolia tree , now over forty years old was an anniversary present from John. Our 47th. anniversary is on Thursday, 11th. September – where has the time gone.
The second hat is a mustard wool with leather trim from the 1960’s that I had some fun styling with the khaki coloured multi tiered tulle skirt from Dogstar and a mustard wool jacket also a Red Fox purchase a few years ago. The first time I posted this jacket on Instagram I was contacted by Susan , a milliner in Burnie , who told me the jacket had been a coat that she had changed into a jacket . I also have three of Susan’s beautiful hats. I also added some beads , Karen Walker sunnies and yellow and black fingerless gloves.
Playing amongst the flowering currants and camellias in the far corner of the garden , fortunately the weeds don’t show as this area needs lots of work still.
Leaving the best for last , a dark blue wool boater that I fell for immediately and know I will wear for many years to come. Today I wore the hat with a Rundholz skirt , Pom Amsterdam shirt , a navy blue feather jacket , orange gloves and tan lace ups.
Coming across these hats has reminded me how much I have missed wearing the hats in my collection over the last couple of years , they didn’t really work with the short hair. That said my new hair plan is to go back to my chin length bob .

I really like the pictures in the garden and those 2 outfits. The yellow jacket is a lovely length. I love both of those skirts too! Quite fetching!

Thank you so very much Mirielle , the garden is good for photos at this time of year.
Jill, it’s wonderful to have a connection, isn’t it? I think my favorite outfit is the first simply because of that magnificent skirt! But, I do agree, the boater is wonderful! Do you display your hats or keep them in hatboxes? I think they would be lovely on display, but I don’t know how much work that would be. When I think of really cool and unusual skirts and hats, I think of you!

Thank you so very much Marsha. I enjoyed putting these outfits together with the new to me hats . I am fond of that skirt so you will see it again. I do keep many of my hats on display and change it around seasonally. You are right hats and skirts really are me.
Fabulous! What a treasure Tania is! All three hats are wonderful.
At first glance I thought your first outfit was Victorian, what a brilliant look! The mustard jacket is tremenous with the 1960s hat and the boater gives you the look of a matador! xxx

Thank you so very much Vix. I agree Tania is a treasure and I so appreciate her thinking of me . I am sure your regulars say that about you too.
Now you mention it the first outfit does have a Victorian look which I always love. I do feel so lucky to have found both the mustard jacket and these hats.
I’m not surprised that resistance was futile and you bought no less than six hats!
The three hats you are showing us here are all wonderful and very you indeed. Tania does seem to know your taste well 🙂
As for your outfits, although I love them all, that first one just blew me away. What a stunner! xxx

Oh my gosh, I love every outfit, especially the brown one the first photo I have to go look at this on my computer later today or tomorrow as my phone is making you distorted shame on my phone!! What a good detour you made to the pharmacy. I’m sure John was thrilled!
Enjoy spring as your garden is so beautiful as we head into fall here in the northern hemisphere it’s been brisk and cool and even a light bit of rain very unusual for California this time of year but nothing’s normal anymore. Oh my God, especially our idiot at the HELM!

Thank you so very much Elizabeth , it was well worth the detour and I do love the new to me hats. At first I wasn,t sure about the brown outfit but I came to like all its different elements. Spring here is always a bit unsettled but it is a joy to see the garden come back to life. I fully understand about nothing being normal the world is in a state of flux and that man isn’t helping one bit.
Oh happy anniversary. It’s today in America. It’s today 47 years. Bravo we will be 40 come July. I’m right behind you.!!
