Hello everyone , hope all is well in your part of the world.
John and I have just enjoyed a city break in Melbourne for a few days meeting up with friends and spending time with our youngest son , Callum and his partner , Georgie. There may also have been a little shopping along the way.
We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed some beautiful sunny days even though it is still officially Winter here. Fortunately I had checked the weather forecast before I left home and included a couple of my lighter skirts that I was able to layer up. This was my outfit for our flight to Melbourne and for our first day exploring some of my favourite city spots. I started with the black and mustard yellow skirt by Brisbane based designer Dogstar paired with a light black knit and Rundholz jacket. My accessories were a necklace bought at a market years ago, black earrings, black sunnies , yellow and black spot fingerless gloves , vintage bag , black tights and bronze Fly shoes.
A view over the Yarra River toward the city centre with the rowers in the foreground.
I was very taken with the colours of the cyclamen in these planters, There is also one of the famous Melbourne trams in the background , the best way to explore the city and as a bonus they are free to ride in the city centre.
We shouted ourselves two nights in the Langham Hotel at Southbank which we would highly recommend , Beautiful hotel , great location and friendly and helpful staff . The only meal we had was a light snack and a drink at the Aria Bar which was excellent .
This was my outfit on Friday , my much loved gingham Moyuru skirt paired with my purchase from the previous day , a long black shirt from Dogstar that I am so pleased with and will work with most of my existing wardrobe , so you will no doubt see it many times as we ease into Summer . It also comes in white which I am tempted to add to my white shirt collection. I paired the shirt with my coloured beads , black and white earrings and the vintage bag and Fly shoes.
After a delicious breakfast at Grain , always a favourite breakfast stop when we are in Melbourne , we visited Dymocks bookshop to purchase some travel guides to start planning our next overseas trip which hopefully will happen next European Spring. After that we caught the train and bus to meet our friends Graham and Sandra for lunch. We have been friends for 50 years this November after meeting on an overland trip from Istanbul to Delhi way back in 1975 .
This was on Saturday morning taken near the hotel , I was most taken with the building in the background with the bees but have no idea what they represent. Wearing a mix of favourites, Runholz pants and black jacket over a black cardigan , green tights , sunnies , black and white necklace and bangles.
Our son Callum collected us from the hotel and we spent the weekend with him and Georgie , no photos as I was too busy talking and just being together .
It was good to have a big city break as I really am a city girl at heart .
Joining Gail at Is This Mutton albeit late for Tuesday Twirl.

Apparently the bees are
a gleaming metaphor for a hive of frenetic activity and harmonious high-density city living.

Thank you Ann < I am so pleased you enjoyed tagging along on my Melbourne visit . We were so lucky weatherwise as it has rained most days since.
I wonder…do you get stopped everywhere you go and asked about your amazing looks? You just have such a fabulous wardrobe that you combine into gorgeous outfits. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Kusama-like skirt! Or, would it be your tulle skirt? I’m not sure because they are all just breathtaking! That building with the bees really is intriguing! I’m glad you had such a wonderful time!

Thank you so very much Marsha . Actually I was stopped by a young man in Melbourne who was a street photographer and asked if he could take my photo , I was rather chuffed . I was also wearing the yellow Kusuma like skirt. I have since found out about the bees , it is an art work representing those who work in the building , a hive of activity.
Fabulous photos, Jill, thank you for sharing, sounds
as though you had a wonderful time.
Love,
Elizabeth.
