Hello everyone , hope all is well in your part of the world.
I have titled this post “Personal Style” but what really does that entail so I consulted (as we do) Google and this is what I found.
Personal style is a unique and individual way of expressing oneself through clothing and accessories , reflecting personality , lifestyle and preferences. Its not about following trends , but about curating a wardrobe that feels authentic and makes you feel confident.
My own thoughts pretty much align here but I know that it takes time to get to that point where we really are truly confident in our own skin. The other thing I would add is that for most of us it is not static and changes with our lifestyle. I have been giving this much thought as I take a serious look at what is in my wardrobe and what I actually wear.
We are now heading toward the last official month of Winter and with that in mind I am trying to wear items that have not seen the light of day so far this season.
I intended to wear this M A Dainty jacket out for drinks and a catch up with the girls from the shoe shop last week but it didn’t feel right, not sure why , maybe too dressy . Is it a keeper , still not sure on that but for now it will stay and I will try with different styling maybe more relaxed than the black tulle and gold boots.
I actually ended up wearing the black skirt with a knit with the mustard colour fluffy jacket. It was a very enjoyable evening hosted by the shop owner as a thank you for taking care of the shop while she was away. It also was the first time in a while that I enjoyed the company of younger women (other than family) , I was the oldest probably by at least twenty years.
I just had to show my gold nails against the jacket . This is another story they actually were supposed to be more of a bronze colour but somehow I ended up with the gold . Next month back to my usual red – I am a creature of habit there as I know that works best on me.
This outfit for me sums up my take on personal style as it contains all that makes my heart sing. I am wearing a mix of old favourites , Moyuru black and white gingham skirt worn with a black knit and red wool vest by Misha , black and white gloves , little vintage hat , black heart brooch, black , red and white earrings , black and white sunnies and red heart Trippen boots.
The Trippen boots with their hearts are both fun to wear as well as being extremely comfortable.
I used to describe my style as classic with a quirky twist but have found over the last few years its far less classic and lots more quirky.
Tell me what does personal style mean for you.

I decided quite recently to stop buying cheaper clothes as I was sending back (to the charity shops) at least half of my buys. This has stopped and I now haunt the website Idaretobe for designer sale items and maybe even ones that are not in a sale! Anyway, this, I think, will change my style quite a lot.
That gold jacket has to be a keeper. Yes, maybe not wear it at a get-together but it’s definitely a jacket to wear at the theatre or art gallery. And I absolutely loved your gold nails! The red boots are amazing, although I chuckled when I saw them as I would fall head flat on my face if I tried to wear boots like that!
Anyway, do carry on being the icon you are – your personal style is very steadily both amazing and – stylish!

Thank you so very much Penny for your kind and generous comment.
I do remember you saying that you have changed your buying habits. It is so easy to be tempted by those prices without really thinking if it really is a bargain if you dont wear it (talking from my experience). I am trying to be stricter now and I only buy what I love and will wear for years to come.
I used to think I was a quirky dresser, but I think you definitely deserve the title of Queen of Quirky! I love your style, but it is yours. If I tried it, it wouldn’t have the same panache. You have to have the confidence to carry it off. I think my personal style is boho with classic and quirky touches. Like you said, though, it’s usually evolving. So, for now, I’m going with boho-classic-quirky! I need to see if I can find a Moyuru skirt of my own!

Thank you so very much Marsha for your kind comment. Yes, I would describe your style as boho , done your own way. Style does change and evolve along with our lifestyle and thats the fun part.
I’ve always loved dressing up even if its just going to the supermarket (I’m 73). When covid started in Melbourne, we left suburban beach side house for retirement in rural Victoria ( 60 kms to our closest shop ),we absolutely love it. I spend my time gardening our huge allotment with a forest and stone bridge over our creek, sewing and knitting, I shop on-line for all my fabric and wool. At the end of the season unsold fabric (I’ve drooled over) is heavily discounted. My motto is there will always be next year and buy up big. I have a whole room just for storing fabric and yarn (hubby kindly decked it out with storage shelves, separate from my cutting and sewing room). I love receiving comments from total strangers, it warms my heart. Yesterday in the shopping centre carpark, a lady wound down her window while driving past us and yelled out “You look fabulous”, my husband smiled and said I told you so.

Its lovely to hear from you Marlene , I hope all is well. Your retirement in rural Victoria sounds wonderful. I so admire anyone with sewing and knitting skills . Your fabric collection sounds amazing . I imagine half the fun is deciding what to make with those fabrics.
I think dressing up as we age is so good for our self esteem and isnt it lovely when you receive a compliment. I was stopped after work yesterday by a lady who admired the skirt I was wearing .
It took me until I felt really confident in my own skin – and freed myself from the shackles of trends and fashion – to develop my own personal style, which, I agree, is not static but evolving all the time. And yes, quirky is the key word in yours, which although different from mine, I admire very much.
That second outfit is so very you, and those Trippen boots are just incredible! xxx

I am the same Ann , I always loved clothes but dressed in what was current fashion and along the same lines as my friends. I strongly believe for most of us it comes as we age and become more self confident. Glad you agree that quirky is my style . I am always in awe of your outfits and attention to detail.
I love your style, Jill. You always look unique, polished and confortable and you can’t get better than that. Your gold nails are fabulous even if they’re not what you’d usually choose and the boots with the embossed hearts are so quirky.
Personal style means being true to yourself and not being caught up with trends, feeling confident in your own skin and dressing in clothes that you love but are practical enough to fit into your lifestyle.

Thank you so very much Vix . I am warming toward the gold nails , sometimes its good to try something new. I do love the red boots and they are comfortable to wear just a little tricky going down hill.
You have summed up personal style beautifully , it is being true to yourself – something you do so well.
