Rugging Up for Winter

Hello everyone , hope this finds all well in your part of the world .

My little stint of casual work has come to an end for now so I have been weather permitting spending time in the garden and catching up on my home chores. Last Thursday I caught up with my friend Janet for our usual long chat over several cups of tea followed by a walk into town.

As it was a cold and frosty morning I rugged up in my new M.Dainy coat of many colours that I purchased locally at Yeltour. The girls at Yeltour know me well and had put the coat aside for me to try on and resistance was futile, the fit and the mix of colours was just perfect. The coat is a very clever design as it is fully reversible with removable sleeves so can also be worn as a vest if you wish.  It is also nicely padded and very warm. On this outing I wore it over a black knit and skirt , adding my gold boots , Ted Baker gloves, sunnies and a vintage velvet hat.

The back of the coat has a different pattern again , I think this may actually be my favourite. This coat is very different to most of my dark Winter coats but I simply love wearing it and know I will wear this for many Winters to come.

Last Saturday John and I attended a birthday party for one of our MG car club friends , Frank, who was celebrating his 80th. birthday. Frank and his wife Margaret who recently turned 79 are an amazing couple with so many varied interests . Their son in his speech spoke of their love of cycling , caravaning and driving around the countryside in open topped sports cars. Margaret is also a very talented artist . It was a lovely evening meeting amongst many longtime friends and meeting their family from interstate.

It was another rather cold evening so I choose to wear my old favourite black Moyuru skirt and black Paule Ka knit topped with my faux fur mustard jacket from Husk that I bought on sale at the end of last Winter. My accessories were simple black earrings and black beads , leopard print tights and Hispaanitas shoes.

I had seen the jacket on our trip north last Autumn and was tempted but it was more than I was willing to pay at the time. I am so glad I waited as at the end of last Winter it was on sale with 70% off and in my size, some times you can be lucky.

I’ll finish this post with a couple of photos I took last Saturday morning on my walk with my dear friend Didee of the fog over the Tamar River. It was cold and damp but did make for interesting atmospheric shots .

Jill, that coat is absolutely breathtaking! I am sure the girls at Yeltour looked at each other and said, “Jill!” It is so perfectly you and will work in so many ways! I saw a group of MGs parked at a local restaurant (interestingly called The Locale), and I thought of you. You will definitely turn many heads in both of these colorful coats!

Thank you so very much Marsha , I think you are right , the girls know me well. I wonder if the group of MG owners are part of a club going for a run just like we often do.

    Hi Jill,
Your coat is AMAZING! I love it and the fact it’s so warm for you in Tassie winters. And the inside? you said it’s
reversible, is it colourful as well?

Sometimes you can be lucky as you said with the jacket but I always believe that everything will be there at the right time. This morning while I was wandering in Paddington, after drinking coffee and writing poetry at a favourite cafĂ©, an amazing tartan cord pair of 90s Euro pants waved to me from the outside side wall of my favourite retro shop. They fitted, I brought them home. If I had been walking the other way I wouldn’t have seen them but obviously I was meant to have them. Isn’t it fabulous when these serendipitous events happen?

    Stay warm,
    Love,
    Elizabeth.

Thank you so very much Elizabeth . The inside of the coat is plain and a soft grey , not as interesting but will still work sometimes.
I agree some things are just meant to be. Your pants sound so good , can’t beat a good tartan .xxx

Hello Jill! Your new coat is utterly gorgeous and is so you! The staff in that shop were right to put it aside for you, it couldn’t be more perfect, I love the cropped fake fur, too – I have a near-identical vintage one on my rails which I may be “borrowing” if I don’t sell it at Glastonbury next week!
    Very atmospheric photos! xxx

That is an incredible coat – of many colours! One to wear again and again. Love the atmospheric photos – it’s interesting to see Tasmania in the winter.
