Old Timers Day

Hello everyone , hope this finds all well in your part of the world.

The title of todays post was taken from a comment I received on Instagram from Stella from Berlin telling me that there is an Old Timers day there next weekend. I thought it most apt for the cars, the town and us.

Last Sunday John and I along with other car enthusiasts from across the state headed to the historic torn of Ross for an enjoyable day of looking at cars (that would be John) and re-connecting friends.

The line up of Morris cars took me back to my childhood , every car I can remember Dad driving was black and an English made Morris.

I know nothing about motor bikes so can’t say if these are old or new but I did think they made a good shot in front of this cottage in the main street.

Does anyone else remember these red phone boxes ? . Growing up we didn’t have the phone connected so it was off to the phone box to call my friends , especially as a teenager . Seems hard to believe these days as we are all so connected to our mobile phones.

The day started out a bit cool and overcast and as we were in the old MG and even though the top was up , the sides aren’t covered so it is still rather breezy so my outfit was a mix of layers. I started with my Rundholz pants and jacket added green tights and boots and a vintage fur cape and hat. Accessories were the vintage velvet hat bought in Melbourne many years ago , sunnies and orange gloves from a little glove shop in Lisbon. I was rather excited when watching Michael Portillo in Lisbon recently when he visited the glove shop , its name is Luvaria Ulisses , it took me back there again.

That’s all for now , till next time , stay well .

We’ve got an Old Timers Day once a month in our village. I should really go and take some photos one day, but somehow I always forget when it’s on.
Although our phone boxes weren’t red, they were still very much around when I was a teenager. My parents didn’t have the phone connected until after I’d left home. Hard to believe indeed …
Your Rundholz pants are fabulous, and I’m swooning over that fur cape! xxx

Thank you so much Ann , I am so pleased with the cape and it did come in handy on that day. You should go to your Old Timers Day it could be fun. The things like phones that today we all have in our pocket does make you think.

Jill, this sounds like such a lovely day! Is the white car in the first photo yours? I don’t know if I’ve ever really seen your MG. It is funny to think about all the changes that have occurred in our lifetimes. My dad worked for the local phone company so we not only had two phones, we had a private line! I often wonder what he’d think about cell phones. He’d either love them and have the latest model always or absolutely detest them!

As always, your outfit is stellar! I love the oranges and the greens. I must admit I really liked your hair when it was grey, but this shade is definitely you! It suits you so well and is your signature. I’m glad (not that you needed my approval…hahaha) you decided to go for it!

Thank you so much Marsha , it was a lovely day . The white car isn’t ours but it is the same model (ours is green). You are so right about the changes that have occurred in our lifetime. You were one of the lucky ones with not only a home phone but a private line.
As for the hair I am pleased with the bright hair but you never know.

I love the look of your Old Timers Day! Jon’s first car was a Morris Minor Traveller, that one looks to be in perfect condition (unlike his!!)
Those trousers are so cool! xxx

Thanks so much Vix , Old Timers Day is a fun day. Fancy Jon having a Morris Traveller , regardless of condition . Much time and money had been spent on restoring the ones I saw . I am fond of these trousers.

My step mom had one of those phone boxes from London. She was British. My youngest SON has it now and will use at the entrance to his driveway. He will install an old dial up phone so visitors can announce their arrival!
I can recall too my Granny’s old car………My parents called it THE GREEN HORNET!No seat belts and when she would take me for a drive I would ALWAYS end up where your feet were meant to be!
