Hello everyone, it’s that time of the month when I join fellow bloggers from around the world for our monthly writing challenge . Our topic for this month is Going Green.
I have always held the belief that if you are aware of the natural beauty all around us you will do your best to protect it . I was reminded of how we take our environment for granted on our recent trip to Japan. We had just arrived in Tokyo and were walking in the Ueno gardens when we were approached by a volunteer guide. After receiving advice on a route through the gardens the conversation turned to where we are from. Naturally we answered Australia , and then Tasmania. As it turned out he had actually visited Tasmania a while ago and not only did he enjoy our scenery but commented on how clean the air is. In actual fact Cape Grim Baseline Air Pollution Station on Tasmania’s northwest coast has the cleanest air in the world.
I was also reminded in Japan of how much the change of seasons are celebrated here , having now experienced both the Spring cherry blossoms and the Autumn colours.
This is Coles Bay on our East Coast , a family holiday spots for many years . It is simply beautiful and my hope for my grandsons is that it remains so for future generations.
I guess that segues into the point of this post and what each of us can do to help protect our planet for future generations.
A few of the small steps I have taken are avoiding anything plastic as much as possible, buying produce in season at our local harvest market, not buying fast fashion , buying clothing that will last and be worn for many years to come , shopping secondhand if possible , walking instead of taking the car for short distances , recycling as much as I can and being mindful of water usage in my garden.
I most certainly hope that the days of climate change cynics are behind us as awareness is paramount. That said in the changing political landscape around the world there are reasons for concern that we may indeed be going backwards.
Please join my fellow writers through Gail at Is This Mutton.
This is my swansong post for the Tell Us About writing challenge as I have decided not to continue next year due to my lack of technical skills I felt I was not really pulling my weight . The challenge has been an interesting experience and has made me realise I am more of a visual person than a writer.
Thank you Gail for instigating the challenge , I wish everyone all the best going forward.

Thank you Jill, we really do need to look after our world.

Thanks so much Debbie , glad to meet you through the challenge.
Lovely pics Jill – we have to remind ourselves how beautiful this planet is. Long may it continue to be that way. I shall miss you on this challenge. But I shall always see what you write about your life and your wonderfully stylish yet sustainable wardrobe.
Have a lovely Christmas X

Thank you so very much Penny . Yes we do , so easy to just take it for granted. I shall continue to read everyone’s posts on the challenge , especially your clever writing. We will keep up our contact for sure. Merry Christmas Penny.
Unfortunately, Belgium isn’t exactly known for its clean air, so there’s still a lot of work to do.
In the meantime, I am taking similar small steps to yours. Now if everybody would be more sensible and do the same … xxx

Many thanks Ann , if only everyone took a few small steps . xx
I just read your other post about your trip to Japan, and the photos are amazing. I believe you are so right, unfortunately, that we are going backward due to the political leanings in various countries around the world (the US will again be at the forefront of the global warming deniers). I try to reuse plastic bags over and over again. Before the pandemic, many stores were doing away with them here. I think that was lost as many turned to ordering groceries rather than going to the store. We have some wonderful bags that attach to the shopping cart. We just put the items in at one end, and then we put them in at the other end once they’ve been scanned. It’s also easier to bring them into the house.
I will miss you on the writing challenge, but I’m hoping you’ll continue to blog about your travels and your fashion!

Thank you Marsha , it was another interesting topic . I think we both share the same concern about going back wards on the climate with the change in governments .
I will continue with my blog posts on a variety of topics. It has been lovely to meet you through the challenge.
Tasmania looks a beautiful – and unspoilt – part of the world. How lovely to have seen Japan in the spring and autumn. Fingers crossed we may be doing a cycling holiday in Japan next November.

Thank you Gail , Tasmania is still quite unspoilt in parts . I have friends that have cycled in Japan and enjoyed in very much , I do hope you go as I think you would love it.
Such a lovely post, Jill! And how amazing to live somewhere with the cleanest air in the world!
I hope you have a wonderful festive season, and that you continue to blog when you can. It’s been a joy having you join us this year.

Thank you Elizabeth and a Merry Christmas to you. Congratulations to the Italian on his retirement , it will be quite an adjustment for you both. I do hope your health will let you do wonderful things together. It would be a joy to have you visit.
I know what you mean about the computer stuff , those changes are so confusing for those of us technically challenged.
All the best. xx
Merry Christmas Eve and happy holidays!! Have enjoyed getting to know you through the Tell Us About series. I imagine Japan in any season is quite amazing. My father visited several times for cancer research meetings and loved the country. We have seen such an increase in the smog and air pollution in El Paso coming across the border. It is almost obscuring our beautiful mountain views somedays. Wish it was easier/more feasible for me to walk places. That is such a impactful way to help our environment. Wishing you the best this coming new year.
