Playing Dress Ups

Hello everyone , hope all is well in your part of the world.

Yesterday was a cold and wet day here and perfect for play dress ups .

Do you get into your wardrobe to play? .It really is so much fun and costs nothing and stretches your imagination using the pieces you already have rather than buying new . John and I are off to Hobart shortly to take advantage of a Christmas gift voucher for dinner at a rather special restaurant so I had some fun putting dinner outfits together , mind you I still aren’t fully decided on the one.

The first contender was this multi tiered khaki tulle skirt from Dogstar that I purchased in Brisbane when I was there in April. I paired it with a black and gold M.Dainty flocked jacket, gold boots, a little black hat and my black and gold studded gloves.

I do like both the skirt and the jacket but after seeing these photos I am not sure they work together as well as they should , I think the jacket shape isn’t quite right and feel another shape would work better. Yes, I am fussy about these things.

My second choice was a Rundolz tutu dress , a longtime favourite , worn with a shaggy faux fur shrug , patterned tights and black Trippen shoes.

The back view of the outfit taken in our bedroom. The picture on right is a collection of old postcards that John framed for me one Christmas many years ago.

I do enjoy wearing tulle as you may have noticed , maybe it’s the girl inside that always wanted to dance and wear a tutu , who knows . One thing I do know is that being 70 won’t change the way I dress. You know that silly rule that you should dress your age (whatever that entails ) I far prefer this idea that I came across recently. How about you dress your attitude!. How you want to feel  and look in your clothes is so much more important than the age on your drivers license.

My third outfit is a black mix of a Rundholz tulle skirt worn with a fine Paule Ka knit and a feather short jacket. I am also wearing a pair of long black boots , a new to me purchase from Vintage Red Fox. They are the most amazing soft leather with a pointed toe and sharp heel and are from Swiss brand Bally and had been hardly worn . The joy of secondhand is finding things that otherwise would be very much out of your price range.

I felt this was quite a dressy outfit so added dangly crystal earrings, also a second hand find and my crystal studded gloves from Paris , a birthday present to me.

Photobombed by Raffy . Please let me know which outfit you prefer and do you enjoy playing dress up or is it just me .

I really like the third outfit best, but I also like the individual pieces of all the outfits. You have an amazing wardrobe.
I like dressing up and trying out different outfits too, and sometimes I write what I have discovered on a little note and pin it to one of the items so I don’t forget.
Currently trying to only buy second hand, so wish me luck.

Thank you so very much Patricia for your opinion , number three seems to be the favourite. Much of my wardrobe has been collected over many years , some bought new , others second hand. I do like your idea of writing down what you found work together.
Best of luck with your second hand buying , it really is a good way to create an interesting wardrobe.

I’m 75 and never intend to dress my age

Good for you Sandy and never should age dictate what we should wear. Thank you for your comment.

I do like that first one a lot: the jacket is stunning and I love the color of the tulle skirt. I do enjoy playing dress up in my closet. I have fun putting together my outfits for the week and then sometimes will also try ideas on how to style something differently. It doesn’t always work out the way I imagine but it is great brain work and creativity.

Thank you so very much Mirielle for your feedback . I am glad I’m not the only one that enjoys playing with outfits and agree it is so good for us on so many levels.

Hmmm, I think the first one is a no as it’s too much fora restaurant (even for you), love the second outfit but perhaps the third is the best. OMG you are such a sharp dresser, Jill. I absolutely adore how you wear what you want in such a brilliant way. And who doesn’t love tulle?! You’re right it is the little girl wanting to wear a tutu but we can carry on wearing this whatever age we are.

    Enjoy the restaurant!

Btw, for the first outfit – could you go to the ball in it, or a very very smart dance?

Thank you so very much Penny and I am of the same opinion on the first one , in fact I am not sure about the skirt. I am leaning toward the third one too as it has that bit of oomph that I love to wear. Yes, we will continue to wear our tulle regardless of age . Will report back on the restaurant.

All outfits look very elegant, but I like best on you outfit 2, then 3. You look awesome on both. Also, your current hairstyle is very becoming. Playing dress up is fun, even at my current age— almost 80!

Thank you so very much Elisa for your feedback, it is most appreciated. I am pleased with my shorter , natural coloured hair and it is so easy. May we long continue to play dress ups .

I just love playing around in what I’m calling my “boudoir” and experimenting with putting outfits together.
Both of your outfits are truly spectacular and I get that it’s a tough decision deciding on “the one”.
For whatever’s worth, the first one is my favourite! xxx

    Hi Jill,
I love all these outfits – it’s hard to decide which one.
They all have so much drama and flair.
    I love the black/gold jacket – fabulous.!
For me, I think the third outfit wins out.Its very classy and I love the earrings and gloves you’ve paired it with.
Whichever outfit you decide to wear, I hope you enjoy your special dinner.! xx

Thank you so very much Eva for your feedback. I must admit I was leaning toward the third one as I do like a touch of drama. I am sure we will enjoy our dinner. xx

I actually really like the first outfit, but I can see your point. What if you added a belt to give the waistline more shape? Whichever outfit you choose, you will have many eyes on you as you make your way to your table! I think you are one of the most stylish people I “know!”

Thank you so very much Marsha . I do like both the tiered skirt and jacket just not together but I will try a belt to see if it changes my perception. I do appreciate you kind compliment and yes we do get to know one another.

Oh wow Jill, you will knock Hobart over! I do love the jacket with the gorgeous Dogstar skirt
but for me – for your special night out – the second option, black tulle tutu and shrug with tights (nothing like
black to make a statement when out somewhere special at night).
