Tell Us About – Personal Style

Hello everyone , it’s that time of the month again where I join fellow bloggers for a monthly writing challenge . Our theme for this month is Personal Style as selected by Sue of Women Living Well After 50. This one was right up my street as style and all things fashion is a bit of a passion of mine.

I have always been interested in fashion but I firmly believe that it takes time to develop your own personal style that is ageless, timeless and original .

I know my own personal style is not a constant and continually evolves. The one thing I do know is that I have no interest in what is considered the look and colour of the season or being pigeonholed into a certain style because of age.

Today I would describe my style as a mix of arty, avante-garde and quirky with a mix of classics and vintage thrown into the mix. I enjoy playing with shapes and textures to create a silhouette that pleases me. I find I am more willing to experiment with styles the younger me would not have even considered.

I am a great fan of black and white and wear it often especially during the Summer. My favourite clothing item would have to be an interesting skirt and over the years I have amassed quite a collection , currently I am enjoying wearing tulle skirts either dressed up or down. My wardrobe is a mix of old favourites , recycled and vintage finds and a few items from Australian makers.

A big part of my personal style is the power of accessories to add interest to any outfit and make it your own. I find it hard to pinpoint a favourite as I love and collect them all , gloves, beads, earrings , bangles and sunnies. I also love to wear hats but since cutting my hair last year I haven’t worn them as much but do miss them so will be finding a way to incorporate them in my Autumn/Winter outfits.

The one thing I would say about personal style is that it is always a work in progress as you get to know yourself and what really suits your body and the stage of your life.

I am looking forward to my fellow bloggers take on this one . To read please go to Gail at Is This Mutton

You certainly have captured your style, Jill. I love the black jacket in particular and also the tartan one with the unusual hat. You’ve inspired me to be a little more avante-garde because if you get right like you have it looks amazing.

Thank you so very much Sue. I do believe most of us find our own style over the years. I will be interested to see how avante-garde plays out for you.

I love the idea of personal style being a work in progress. That’s exactly how I think of mine as I just don’t want to be stuck on one look alone, which to some extent I think you have achieved in a very good way as you always look interesting. I want to be more interesting than I am now and that I continue to work on. I think it’s good that we have evolved our look as the worst thing, in my view, is a look that was good in the past which has not adapted to the present day.

I too seem to be wearing fewer hats especially the ones with big brims. It’s the woolly beanies and other similar types for the cold weather that get worn because of the cold weather, which btw, continues as its freezing today! But I shall wear a big-brimmed hats in the summer.

As for your skirts – they are divine.

Thank you Penny , as usual we agree on so many things. Yes , it is so important to evolve your style as we change in so many ways over time. I will be interested to see your hats over the Summer. We do both enjoy our skirts.

Although we’ve got different personal styles, I found myself nodding in agreement quite a few times while reading your post. Like you, I’m not interested in the look and colour of the season, nor does age prevent me from wearing what I like. My personal style has seen quite a few changes over the decades, and like yours, it’s still a work in progress. Long may it continue for the both of us! xxx

Thank you so much Ann , so glad we agree that we have our own style that reflects our own unique personalities. I agree long may we continue to simply be ourselves and dress to suit us. xx

Jill, I have always thought your style is just so amazingly uniquely you! I love your skirts, too…so, if they ever need rehoming, there’s a home for them in the middle of the US! Hahaha!!! I do hope you can figure out how to make your hats work with your new hair…which is stunning!

I absolutely love your style Jill. It’s very distinctive and stylish. You were very wise to accumulate the pieces over the years. I was always too rash in clearing out.

I feel like I haven’t had the opportunity to get to know you well as we were ships passing in the night as hosts for Tell Us About. But I enjoyed learning more about your sense of style. Skirts are probably one of my favorite things to wear and have always been as I think back on my favorite looks. Enjoyed seeing you and Penny in your tulle skirts on her blog. Seems you both have access to some impressive thrift store with abundant great finds. You both have such a fun, eclectic sense of style.

Thank you so very much Leslie. Glad to meet a fellow skirt lover , like you something I have always enjoyed wearing. Penny and I were the tulle twins when we met in London . Unfortunately my local thrift stores are nowhere as good as the ones Penny has access to in the UK.
It is a shame we missed each other in Tell Us About , maybe in the future.
