Gone Dotty

Hello everyone , how are things in your part of the world?

A rather short post today as it is a beautiful sunny day here and after the recent rain I have so much work to do in my garden.

Today’s outfit combines some of my favourite things – black and white , polka dots and tulle.

Let’s start with the polka dots( always fun to wear) , this time on my tights and on my much loved cotton jacket from Calico and on my headband too.

I paired the polka dots with my black Rundholz tulle skirt as I am enjoying its styling possibilities and finding options I once would never have considered.

On the black and white theme I added  black and white bangles from my collection. I have purchased some retail but the large majority of my bangles are thrift shop buys for less than $2.00 each. Preen black and white sunnies, Jianhui earrings , a wide black fabric belt and white shoes with black leather laces from Preston Zly in Melbourne complete the look.

Turning my back on the conventional idea that we should dress in a certain way as we age.

I had a conversation recently with a group of women recently who found it hard to find clothing that suits them . I was the odd one out (the story of my life) as I have no problems finding clothing that suits me and my lifestyle , age doesn’t enter the equation for me.

Do you my lovely readers find clothing choices limited over time or are you in my camp?

If anything I find I am becoming way more adventurous in my style choices as time passes. Have fun , experiment , try new things and leave your comfort zone has become my new motto.

Oh my word, what an outfit – love it! I’m definitely in your camp as I buy what suits me and really anything goes. However, I would like to push myself a little bit more into the biker/rocker chic camp – you are my role model!

    Enjoy your garden 🙂

Thank you so much Penny. I can most certainly see you in the biker/rocker style and know we both share a love of interesting skirts.
Enjoyed my garden time but now it is raining again.

I am your camp: I have found as I have gotten older that I know what I like and don’t and what I want to wear. I still make the occasional wrong buy but usually I love what I wear. I absolutely love this polka dot outfits and I think your fun shoes are just the icing on the cake.

Insecure people wear what other people think you should wear! And that don’t mean that it looks good on you because of their opinion! Wear what you love! You look good in every outfit!!

I love to shock the rural community I reside in. I’m 70 yeas old, I’ve been a “mod”, a hippy, a punk, a bikie, a mum, a grandma, a wife, a lover and an artist. I’ve never conformed to societies dress code. I started making my own clothes when I was 12, I still do. My darling husband tells me how fabulous I look ever day. Other’s also comment how well put together my outfit are. Life is too short to be boring and bland, be brave and take risks.

Good for you Marlene and I bet you look simply fabulous . Ido envy your sewing skills, I am limited to buttons and hems.
Couldn’t agree more that life is too short to be boring and bland , take risks and have fun I say too.

Love your dottiness, Jill! And your unique expression of dress. My mother instilled in me from the
age of 13 to “be an individual, don’t follow the crowd” as far as my clothes went and I certainly took that path.
My first clothing purchase of my own at age 13 was from The Boandik Lodge Opportunity Shop – a black and red crepe “old lady” dress which I shortened to a mini, bought a wide width of red velvet ribbon to tie at the waist and wore with fishnet stockings and black “granny shoes”. I LOVED that dress and it set me on the path to allowing clothes to “find” me and for me to find stories in the clothes I found.
I’m sorry, I’m not answering your question re finding limited choices, I wear what I love, as you do too.
Gorgeous background to your gorgeous self in the photos. Hope your beautiful garden is responding to the spring rains. Elizabeth. xx

Thank you so very much Elizabeth. Your mother was a wise lady with a true insight that taught you such a great lesson on being yourself. Your very first outfit sounds so much fun and set you on the path to your own style at such a young age. It is always interesting to ponder the life of pre loved items. You answered my question beautifully. xx

Well, I can’t find anything I like these days because it all feels so dull. I don’t dress my age, I dress my mood. I agree that polka does are always good!

Fabulous outfit, Jill, and surely nobody does black and white as well as you do!
On a side note, I too have become more adventurous in my dressing with age – apart perhaps during my punk years – and I’m always the odd one out as well! xxx

I found you through Nancy’s link-up – I LOVE your style, and think we are rather similar (I’m wearing a lot of black and white right now, including an armful of bangles! I even have a black tulle skirt and shoes like yours!).

I also don’t find any problem with clothes for myself – I’m willing to try pretty much anything, and have gotten to the point (I’m 55) that I don’t really care what others think of what I’m wearing. I feel great and I’m expressing myself.

We certainly do seem to share many things and isn’t it so good expressing yourself regardless of what others think.

You have so many cool items in your wardrobe it takes my breath away! Black and white, polka dots and tulle are 3 of my favorite things too. I love those white boots, the sunnies and the stacked bangles! I don’t find that clothing styles become limited as we get older – it’s mindset that limits us. Have a great weekend Jill.

Thank you so very much Gail. Many of the items in my wardrobe have been amassed over many years and now I try to only buy things I love and will work with things I own. I totally agree it is the mindset that is limiting . xx
