Last Thursday John and I flew to Melbourne for a very pleasant few days catching up with family and friends. This was our first flight since returning from Cuba in March last year . Obviously there were a few changes , the wearing of masks on the flights and in the airport and obtaining permits for entering another state.
We stayed at The Hotel Windsor , one of Australia’s original grand hotels established in 1883. A stay here had been on my bucket list and it certainly exceeded my expectations. The hotel has hosted many famous names including former Australian Prime Ministers and stars of screen and stage .
This was taken on the rather grand staircase as I headed out to meet up with my friend Suzanne on Friday morning. I was wearing my navy Rundholz skirt , Pom Amsterdam shirt and feathery vest . Suzanne and I enjoyed a wonderful day together catching up on our news and visiting several local designers , I may have made a purchase or two .
The images below give a glimpse of the old world charm that makes the Windsor rather special.
Melbourne has always been a favourite city of mine and I so enjoyed visiting again. Yes, due to Covid there are changes , particularly small businesses in the city centre. The vibe of the city is slowly returning after being in lockdown for 102 days last year.
We spent time wandering the streets and enjoying the architecture , both old and new.
One of my favourite things to do in any city is to enjoy the parks and gardens. The Autumn weather was simply beautiful with warm, sunny days just perfect for a long walk through both the Botanical Gardens and the Fitzroy Gardens.
Melbourne is also famous for its interesting lane ways and street art. This one in normal times is filled with tourists posing with the art .
Had to include this sunrise shot taken from the hotel window .
My outfit for a spot of city wandering , old favourite Moyuru skirt, black Paula Ryan tee, leather jacket Caroline Moore, Ms Edgeley turban .
Joining Mica for Weekday Wear, Jess at Elegantly Dressed and Stylish, Gail for Wow on Wednesday, Jacqui for Chic and Stylish and Nancy for Fancy Friday.
What a lovely city, and that hotel you stayed in is rather special! Very interesting post that makes me think Australia has to be a bucket list item, although that really is a fantasy at the moment. Can’t say I’d like long haul at the moment.
You look amazing as usual, lovely skirts as ever.
Great post x

Melbourne is a lovely city with so much to offer. I fully understand , it will be quite some time before any of us feel comfortable with long haul flights . As much as I long to travel again I am resigned to it not happening any time soon.
Thank you Penny, we do share our love of skirts.
Lovely photos of Melbourne..well done. Wondered why you needed a permit io go from Tasmania to Victoria??? Donβt understand that .

Thank you so much Deidre . The Victorian government deems that everyone entering Victoria needs to apply for a permit to help reduce the risk of Covid 19 in Victoria and manage any outbreaks. ( reference service vic.gov.au website). That said no-one checked our permits when we arrived, very different to returning home when our temperatures were taken and our permits were scanned.
It’s so interesting to see Melbourne. I love the old architecture, and the gardens looked superb. Thanks for bringing “us” along! π

Thank you Mary , glad you enjoyed a look at Melbourne through my eyes. You and I do share so many similar interests don’t we. xx
I can quite understand why a stay at the Windsor was on your bucket list! And Melbourne sounds like an architecturally rich and vibrant city. Thank you so much for offering us a glimpse.
It must have been lovely catching up with your friend, too. Can’t wait to see your purchases.
Your outfits are fabulous, quirky and very you as usual, Jill! xxx

Thank you so much Ann , Melbourne is one of my favourite Aussie cities and it was so good to visit again. My new purchases are very Winter and we are having a mild Autumn but will appear as the weather cools. xx
Wow, Melbourne has a lot to offer. Those buildings are amazing and that hotel, what a beautiful place to stay at. It reminds me of staying at the Waldorf Astoria in New Orleans.

Thank you so much Mirielle . Melbourne is a lovely city with its well preserved historical buildings. The hotel was full of history as I imagine the Waldorf Astoria in New Orleons is also.

Thank you Lovely , I was pleased with the sunrise photo , one of those lucky shots. I do like all black sometimes. Melbourne is a lovely city to visit.
Love all the black in your outfit with the pop of colour from your necklace – so very Melbourne! it’s nice you were able to travel again too! With all the border closures we haven’t felt right travelling around yet – having to suddenly and unexpectedly do hotel quarantine if the rules changed with two little boys would just be too much, haha! So we stay close to home and just admire all the travels other people went on instead!
Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup π Hope that you have a nice weekend ahead of you!

Thank you Mica, true, the black is very Melbourne. It was good to travel again. I fully understand your hesitance in travelling with your little ones. Always enjoy your link up.
I missed this post I guess. I was changing my mail account, but I subscribed again! How lovely to go away for a few days! So relaxing isn’t it! We love parks too, there is something about them. Love that black gate!

Thank you Nancy for re-subscribing. It was lovely to go away for a few days and to fly again. I always enjoy visiting the large parks in the city, the gate is very English I think.
