Bits and Bobs

The title of today’s blog post really does reflect how things have been here of late.

I have been busy working extra days , trying to bring over grown wisteria and jasmine under control in my garden before it takes over my beloved camellias, catching up with family and friends and I even had a visit to my charming and talented hairdresser , Jaimie , for a shorter cut.

Our weather has been a mix of beautiful Autumn days with cool mornings and evenings and some rainy days . I have been making the most of the last of the warmer days and wearing garments that deserve an outing before being packed away for the next six months. A few days ago it was this little pink , white and black daisy print jacket that I purchased a few Summers ago teamed with a Trelise Cooper skirt, recycled Charles Jourdan bag , bangles and black boater.

This was my outfit for a dinner out with dear friends visiting from Melbourne, black Rundholz jacket worn over my Trelise Cooper skirt and paired with the sparkly necklace I found at Vintage Red Fox last November.

We met our friends on an overland bus trip from London to Delhi back in 1975 and have remained friends ever since.

Needless to say we reminisced about that trip and what a unique experience it was and how much has changed in that part of the world since then.

This not so wonderful picture of the group was taken in the Cappadocia region in Turkey. I am hiding behind the lady in the red jumper. The group consisted of an interesting group of people from all around the world.

Looking through my photos taken on that trip I came across this one of me taken in Athens. You may well ask why I was wearing a white dress , especially as I was travelling in a VW Campervan and generally staying in campsites with limited laundry facilities. I have no answer other than I was young and somewhat unpractical in these matters. Sorry about the quality of these pictures they were all printed from slides , now that is dating me isn’t it.

Last week I also had a long overdue visit to my optometrist for new reading glasses. Even though my prescription hadn’t changed I felt the need for a change and came away with this Paul Taylor bright green pair, they also have black and white arms and trim , so it was a no- brainer really.

I had been toying with a shorter cut for a while and am rather pleased with the result.

My glove collection grew again last week when I discovered these delightful cream gloves at an Op shop. They were rather grubby but after a good soak and a couple of hand washes they are nearly as good as new.

Continuing on with my mission of enjoying garments I haven’t worn this Summer , for my trip to the hairdresser I wore this chartreuse Apuntob coat over a black tee and paired with Manuelle Suibelle striped pants.  I added a collection of beads , Karen Walker sunnies, cream Hispanitas sandals and those cream crochet gloves.

Happy Easter . xx

Oh yes, I remember those days when fashionable got before practical. Lol. That is such a lovely short jacket, the pink one. And those glasses are fabulous. Enjoy the last days of summer!

Many thanks Nancy , after a few cooler days we are now enjoying some warmer days again . I think maybe it is an age thing , practical wins over fashionable or do we just enjoy both. xx

Oh wow, so much to comment on! First of all, I love the new glasses! Very you and I think I’d wear them too. I’m getting some new ones today so you’ll see them soon.

Love the little pink daisy jacket but I think the jacket and skirt you wore to dinner is just divine. I’d wear both items. Also love the chartreuse coat and the new hair cut.

    Have a lovely weekend 🙂

I do love the little pink jacket but must admit the black jacket is worn on repeat , as its so easy to dress up or down. xx

Thank you so much Jess , I am pleased with both my new cut and the colour at present. Glad you enjoyed my old travel pictures even though the colours aren’t great. Slides were the big thing and having family slide nights.

Bits and bobs certainly sums up my life at the moment as well. I too am wearing garments that desperately need to be worn (again) before I pack them away, although in my case, obviously, it’s my Winter wardrobe I’m talking about. I love the pink, white and black daisy print jacket and the gorgeous pink bag you are wearing with the outfit. I also love your shorter hair. I’m currently growing mine into a bob – a hairstyle I used to have for many year – and I’m quite envious of how sleek yours looks. My hair seems to have a mind of its own, lately.
Your new reading glasses are fab, and I loved seeing the picture of younger you in a white dress. The overland bus trip sounds quite an adventure! xxx

Thank you Ann, life is so often just a matter of simple bits and pieces. I have been enjoying your Winter wardrobe , some inspiration for our upcoming Winter , not that you would know it today , its 24C. I do love the little jacket not sure why it hadn’t had an outing before now. I am pleased with my shorter bob . I will be keen to see your grown our bob , it certainly will suit you . It is fun sometimes to look at your younger self.

    Hello Jill!

I absolutely love that you’re still friends with the couple you met on the overland trail and love the photos. I recognised Cappadocia immediately. I always wear white in Greece, it isn’t practical but it feels right.
Your hair looks fantastic and I love the new reading glasses. It sounds like life is normal in your part of the world with meeting friends and meals out. I’m happy to read that! xxx

Hello Vix , yes things are pretty normal here but with some Covid safe restrictions, checking in and limited seating .
We have continued the friendship despite living in different states by trying to see each other at least once a year and many phone calls and emails , they are dear friends and like family. I knew you would know the Cappadocia region in Greece , it is so fascinating. Funny how you wear white in Greece too. xx

Love the haircut! I just got mine trimmed too and am loving it. My hairdresser is going abroad this summer so I am trying to decide whether to go back end of May before she leaves otherwise I will have to wait till August. I have been making an effort to wear all the things in my closet but I did end up shopping a little yesterday: colorful short sleeves were needed. I am glad you saw the potential in the gloves: they are very pretty.

Thank you Mirielle , I am pleased with my shorter cut. I would go back in May if I were you. It is good to wear things in our closet and have fun with different styling. The gloves were one of those lucky finds.

Your hair looks really good – I’m also going to have a shorter cut when the salons reopen. I love the chartreuse jacket and your new reading glasses (the sunglasses are spectacular too!). I am busy at work in the spring garden, no camellias sadly as the soil isn’t right.

I’m loving your new haircut—I had a similar style when I got married in 1998!!
Funny that you got new glasses this week. So did I (blogged about it today)! They’re absolutely gorgeous, I wish I could wear styles like that.
