We arrived home safe and sound late on Sunday evening after several days of travel from Cuba and are now in home quarantine for the next 14 days.
I have never felt so grateful to walk through my front door and to finally be in my own home after a somewhat stressful end to our trip due to travel restrictions and cancelled flights.
We flew out of Havana, Cuba as planned , travelling via Mexico City to return to Los Angeles from where we caught our flight home. We flew with AeroMexico from Havana to L.A. and were most impressed with their service. Interestingly enough the only place we had our temperatures taken was in Mexico City. We filled in forms to enter the U.S. with details indicating that you are monitored but this didn’t eventuate.
Our flight back to Australia with Virgin Australia was the last flight out of L.A. for the airline as Australia has now closed her borders. The staff were wonderful under the circumstances as they had been stood down for the foreseeable future. Our original flight was to Melbourne but that flight was cancelled and we returned via Sydney then another flight back down to Melbourne then home to Launceston.
Wi-fi access in Cuba is rather limited so we had made the decision to not bother with any online access. This was going well until towards the end of our trip we were enjoying a drink at a rooftop bar in a magnificent palacio in Cinfeugos when we heard on a CNN broadcast that the U.S. was closing its borders to residents of 28 countries. At that time we had no idea if that included Cuba and Mexico . Our guide Milena and Experience Cuba were extremely helpful in passing on the information we needed. At the same time our Australian Government were strongly advising all residents to return home as soon as possible.
Fortunately for us we were near the end of our trip so no changes were necessary to our flights home.
We arrived back in Los Angeles on the day the Californian Governor announced major changes due to the Coronovirus. This shot was taken on Santa Monica Pier at the start of our trip two weeks earlier, it really is hard to comprehend how quickly things have escalated everywhere.
May we all stay well and safe and keep in touch with each other via our favourite social media.

Many thanks Elizabeth , the trip was a wonderful experience but under these changing times it was good to be homr.
I’m so glad that you were able to enjoy your trip and didn’t have leave early. Thank goodness you’re home now, the BBC news this morning says there’s thousands of Brits trapped all over the world without a hope of getting home, so awful for them.
I’m dying to hear about your adventures in Cuba! xxx
