Winter is in full force in my part of the world , it was a frosty , clear morning just perfect for a few quick shots in my garden in its Winter glory. My Ted Baker purple peplum jacket was just the thing to warm a chilly morning.I have had this jacket for several Winters now and love both its style and colour.Purple is not really a colour I wear often but every time I venture out in this jacket I receive kind compliments.
Wearing this outfit today made me reflect on an item I came across on Instagram recently about repeating the outfits you love and the impact this would have on our rampant consumerism and the need for something brand new for every occasion. I find I am buying very little retail these days , far preferring to find treasures at recycling stores and sometimes thrift shops or op shops as they are known here. Wearing the same outfits with different accessories to ring the changes has always been my way. I have never really been one that just has to have a new outfit for every occassion or season.
I have never felt the need for this to change since I began blogging either. Case in point the photo above was posted in June 2014, same jacket and skirt , different hat, shoes and necklace.
Once again repeated in Winter 2016 and Winter 2017 with different finishing touches and hair styles and colour.
On quite a different note I am in need of advice . I have been made aware that commenting on my blog has been troublesome for some of late and I am considering changing from blogger to WordPress. This is a little complicated as it would involve a slight name change for the blog from Grownupglamour (as one word) to Grownup-Glamour , not really sure if this is such a big deal. Also due to my total lack of any technical skills I would need to have this done for me. I guess I am weighing up the financial outlay too. Many thanks in advance for any advice.
The outfit consists of the Ted Baker Jacket, Jump skirt, sparkly belt, Fillies hat and booties by Brenda Zaro.
Linking with Patti for Visible Monday, Catherine at Not Dressed as Lamb, Jess for Turning Heads Tuesday and Nancy for Fancy Friday Link Up.
I had no idea Ted Baker made anything as fabulous as that jacket – no wonder it's a favourite, the colour is incredible and contrasts beautifully against the greenery. On a technical note I've had a lot of messages recently from people saying that they're unable to comment on my blog. I've allowed anonymous comments (but filter them before publishing) which has helped some, others leave their comments on Facebook (where I share my blog posts) or email me. After almost 10 years I'm attached to Blogger and I can't bring myself to leave. xxx
Many thanks Vix , I have had this jacket for quite a few years now and love both the style and colour. I haven't been overly impressed with any of the Ted Baker recently .Glad to hear that at least I'm not alone with the commenting problem. Not sure which way to go yet. xxx
That's a truly wonderful jacket and you look great in it. And what a treat to see you wearing it over the years. Your skirt also.RE: the recent technical hitches. It must be something to do with GDPR as this has all happened since it came into being. I can now comment using Firefox and that's great. And yes, you're not the only blog where my comment just disappeared as this was happening on 5 other blogs using the Blogger platform. Have you asked Blogger why this is happening? Something's going on there, which they need to resolve. Having said all that WordPress is lovely and easy to use. Good luck with all this – aggravating isn't it!
The technical hitches are frustrating but am glad to know it is a Blogger platform problem and not just me. I do appreciate you contacting me on IG and letting me know. The jacket is a bit of a change for me but I always enjoy wearing it , as the post shows.
Ah computers! They bring us to our knees, but now we need them like air and water. I do like WordPress better than Blogger, but I have a live-in computer expert, so the transition wasn't costly. Good luck in your decision. and you're absolutely stunning in purple, esp with your new red hair. It's great to repeat outfits, I think, it's a respite from all the buy-buy messages. xoPattihttp://notdeadyetstyle.com
Patti, how lucky are you with your own live-in computer expert. Not sure which way I,ll go yet, possibly to WordPress in time.I always enjoy wearing this jacket so am happy to continue to repeat showing it on the blog.
WordPress is so much better! I hope everything works out great for you! It s werd to see you in winter clothes while it s warm here! Fabulous coat!
I know the reverse seasons are hard to take in but I always like to get ideas about what to wear for my next seson when it comes. Enjoy your Summer.I will probably change to WordPress eventually, thanks for the advice.
I don't have any advice, but I am positive you'll find just the right solution! The only change for me lately with Blogger is that I stopped receiving comments on my email address which was handy. Now, I have to get to my blog to read them, or read the new comments in Blogger / Settings … I hope it will get all comments, including to the old posts. It was so much handier before! This purple jacket is amazing, and I remember it on you very well! It fits you like a glove, and the color is fantastic with your hair! Love all the combinations – you are very stylish! I think that for those women who have been into fashion and style all their life and have been collecting clothes and accessories for years and maybe even decades, it is quite natural not to buy new stuff very often. Especially these days when the quality of stuff is so rapidly declining, unless it's something very unique, hand-made or designer. But for me, it is a little different. Many years I just didn't have opportunities to buy stuff – we all were minimalists in the USSR. Of course, we wore the same clothes and repeated outfits often, or came up with new ways of combining. That was the main reason I learned sewing and knitting – I just wanted to have more options. But even fabric and yarn were in deficit… It started changing right when I left Russia! Here in the US, style preferences are so very different from Russia, that it took me years to get used to them, to find brands and stores that I liked, plus I was too preoccupied with other things in life, plus my size changed too much… At the end, I started my wardrobe from scratch about 5 years ago. Of course, that involved a lot more purchases than I ever had in my entire life – but it is my unique story and my unique journey. I also love thrift finds that are more unique than mass market. But again, not too many options for plus size. So I think, whatever works – it's all good. Thrifted, vintage, contemporary, hand-made, new and old – whatever combination works for each of us, it's all good!
I appreciate the changes you must have encountered when you arrived in the United States. You are finding your own style and collecting lovely pieces as you travel along. I agree with your wise words to do whatever works for you.I have had the same problem not receiving comments on email , it was so much better. Always enjoy your comments Natalia. xxx
Apparently Blogger is not supportinng OpenId anymore, so people commenting using that have trouble. Anyone commenting using Google should be OK. So, it has nothing to do with GDPR as such. However, it is still annoying of course. On another note, I couldn't agree more on repeating outfits. Although I do shop (on occasion though less and less these days) in fast fashion chains, I find the constant consumerist wasteful and irresponsible. It makes us see clothes as something we wear once and then just throw away, instead of appreciating the skill and workmanship that went into producing a garment. Personally, I am trying to move away from this theow-away culture and buy less but buy better. And you're looking lovely in purple.
Thanks so much Tiina for filling me in on the commenting problem . It makes the decision to change easier knowing that it is something outside my control.I know that you and I do share the same views on repeating outfits, this is the way happens in our lives. Couldn't agree more on the perils of a throw away society .
Iremember your beautiful jacket and like how nicely it matches to black! The necklace is gorgeous is it pearls? Details definitely make the outfit.Lovely hats as always!
Thanks so much Dan , the purple jacket continues to brighten my Winter. The long multi-strand necklace is pearls (fake ones), well spotted.
Fantastic look, Jill! I can recommend a solution for you about the blogger to WordPress change. I used CMS2CMS automatic service, so you don't need to have any technical skills. And it works very fast and I'm satisfied with my new website
