I have just returned home from a few days in Sydney, a birthday treat from my generous husband.
The breathtaking view over Sydney harbour on a glorious sunny day is always the highlight for
any visitor.
The Sydney Opera House with its white roof shell shaped sails was completed in 1973 and was designed by Jorn Utzon, a Danish architect. As is often the case with outstanding architecture the project was one of great controversy with complex engineering problems and escalating costs causing great public debate at the time. Today the Sydney Opera House is a national cultural and performing arts centre , hosting performers from around the world.
If you ever find yourself in Sydney a guided tour is highly recommended.
The other Sydney icon is the Sydney Harbour Bridge , also known locally as the coathanger for rather obvious reasons.
Strolling through The Rocks , with its cobblestone streets and sandstone buildings takes you back
in time to the early days of Sydney town.
One of the highlights of the trip was a chance discovery , stumbled upon while wandering the Botanical Gardens, we noticed that Government House and its gardens were open to the public.
Having peered through the gates at this magnificent building and gardens on many previous visits this was to good to miss and I was not disappointed.
Government House , residence of the New South Wales Govenor, is built from local sandstone in the Gothic Revival Style and was completed in 1845 and is surrounded by colourful gardens and sandstone pavers.Unfortunately, we were too late for a tour of the house but it is on my list for my next trip to Sydney.
I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the lavishly planted gardens with their colourful displays.
My casual outfit for a day of exploring consists of black and white spot harem pants from Moyuru paired with a black tee and Sarah Paccini knit , silver brogues, a collection of black and white bangles, black and white sunnies from Preen, black and white graphic earrings and a new black boater hat. Joining Patti for Visible Monday, Jess for Turning Heads Tuesday, Nancy for Friday Linkup.
