My calendar tells me this is the final week of our Winter so time for my Winter Coats last hurrah by
the Tamar River on what turned out to be a day with a nod to the Spring weather to come.
This has been a very wet and somewhat mild Winter so wet weather gear, rather than my beloved
Winter wool coats, has been the outer wear of choice. Also the fact that we were away for the first
six weeks of Winter meant I had not worn my coats as much as usual.
I teamed my old favourite black coat with its huge leopard print collar with this high crown black hat
with its black velvet bow that I purchased from a local hat shop, sadly no longer, in the early 90’s.
I remember my children refering to this hat as Mum’s witches hat.
The river on a cool but fine sunny day is a wonderful place to spend some time.
My second coat is a vintage coat that I purchased from Vintage Rose in Hobart a few years ago.
I was told it is from the 1950’s and the label is Blin and Blin , which I have read is a French Textile
Firm , it also has another label , Wasco. It is pure wool and very heavy to wear so extremely warm.
The collar and cuffs are not fur but must be an early type of faux fur, they remind me of chenile.
The style of the coat with its interesting back with the inverted pleat as well as the details on the sleeves
is what drew me to this coat initially but as much as I still like the style I am not really sure if this is really
the coat for me. I feel the colour on me is a bit nothing and that the bulk of the coat is a bit overwhelming.
I would appreciate your thoughts , do you agree or no.
I continued the leopard theme but this time with my gloves and my wool vintage beret.
