Winter Coats and Their Last Hurrah

 ,
My calendar tells me this is the final week of our Winter so time for my Winter Coats last hurrah by
the Tamar River on what turned out to be a day with a nod to the Spring weather to come.

This has been a very wet and somewhat mild Winter so wet weather gear, rather than my beloved
Winter wool coats,  has been the outer wear of choice. Also the fact that we were away for the first
six weeks of Winter meant I had not worn my coats as much as usual.

I teamed my old favourite black coat with its huge leopard print collar with this high crown black hat
with its black velvet bow that I purchased from a local hat shop, sadly no longer, in the early 90’s.
I remember my children refering to this hat as Mum’s witches hat.

The river on a cool but fine sunny day is a wonderful place to spend some time.

My second coat is a vintage coat that I purchased from Vintage Rose in Hobart a few years ago.
I was told it is from the 1950’s and the label is Blin and Blin , which I have read is a French Textile
Firm , it also has another label , Wasco. It is pure wool and very heavy to wear so extremely warm.
The collar and cuffs are not fur but must be an early type of faux fur, they remind me of chenile.

The style of the coat with its interesting back with the inverted pleat as well as the details on the sleeves
is what drew me to this coat initially but as much as I still like the style I am not really sure if this is really
the coat for me. I feel the colour on me is a bit nothing and that the bulk of the coat is a bit overwhelming.
I would appreciate your thoughts , do you agree or no.

I continued the leopard theme but this time with my gloves and my wool vintage beret.

Many thanks Patti, no need for coats of any kind in your part of the world.

Love both coats, but yes I do like the first one better. Perhaps the second coat would look better with a bright hat or scarf to liven it up a bit? 🙂

The beige coat is a bit bland (the colour, not the cut). Maybe it needs colourful accessories? The first coat is a movie star coat, a real stunner.

Thanks Tiina , that's exactly the way I feel about it too . I will play with some colour.

Both coats are beautiful and the neutral colour of the second one makes it easy to add any kind of colourful accessories… if your winter is about to finish…it means that my summer is almost over!!! 🙁

Jill, I really like both of your coats, the leopard shawl collar is gorgeous and looks so elegant with "Mum's witch's hat". 🙂 But my heart goes to the vintage coat – I am taken with its design, timeless, feminine and luxurious. And you look enchanting wearing it, especially with this fan hat! I tried on a 1950s coat once and it was incredibly heavy. More than that, living in Siberia for almost 30 years, I wore tons of extremely heavy coats. So I know how it feels. Here in my mild climate it definitely would be too much. But oh the style! I'm in love with it. I would keep it for sure, even if it had only rare outings.Thank you so much for linking!!!

That was "fab" hat, not "fan" hat! 🙂

And I like this color – in my opinion, it's a beautiful warm neutral color, not "blah" at all.

Natalia, many thanks for your kind words, so glad you liked both coats.I am warming to the second one and it will be worn on very cold days. I can only imagine the coats you would have needed in Siberia. Enjoy your favourite time of year this Fall.

You have such magnificently chic winter coats, dear Jill. Seeing them makes me eager to bring mine back into rotation here soon. Hopefully not until at least October though. We so little in the way of true summer weather around these parts this year, I'm keen to hold onto balmy days as long as possible (but the moment fall really hits, I'll be the first one making a beeline for tights and wool overcoats, I assure you :)).Many hugs & happy start of September wishes,♥ Jessica

What fabulous coats, Jill! The interesting back of the coat you're not sure of on you (I say, wear it, it looks great) is amazing, as is the leopard collar – and your gloves! Are these some of the collection you brought back from France? Yes, it's the 1st of Spring today and up here, suddenly, each year, overnight, the humidity starts to kick in, the temperature is 17 by 8 a.m. instead of still 10 and it's a question of do I wear tights or not? I do love the change of seasons and send you happy wishes for a beautiful Spring in Tassie. xx

Thankyou so very much Elizabeth , glad you liked my coats.I will take your advice and wear the beige coat on the coldest of days. Both of these pairs of gloves I have had for some time, one purchased here, the other in Melbourne. Your start to Spring is a little different to ours but we did have a lovely sunny day . Once again many thanks and have a wonderful Spring. xx
