Fade to Grey

I came across an article in the weekend newspaper referencing the current trend of the head to toe grey outfit, apparently  this is known as a “groutfit’ , a term I had never heard before. I must admit to never
really being a huge grey fan , I would much rather just wear black.
This all got me thinking about the phrase “fade to grey’ and what that really means. According to the Urban
Dictionary , a most reliable source, it refers to someone who looses interest in something or someone and
has no motivation to try something new . It also was the title of a song by the British band Visage released
in 1980 .

Determined not to fade to grey I have chosen to wear this rather unusual shaped  dress from New Zealand designer Paula Ryan . Both the elephant grey and the shape of the dress would once have been out of my comfort zone but I now enjoy leaving the safety of the known to explore the new.

Tipping my hat to the confidence to try something new and explore a change of style. That to me is
one of the joys of enjoying our clothes and their ability to convey a message of change .

A closeup of the side detail of the sides of the dress and a peek at my Trippen shoes, the most
comfortable shoes I have invested in for some time. I firmly believe it is the small details that
give the most value to any outfit.
I have added an off white jacket from Covers , an Australian label that is no longer, that I have
loved for many seasons.

There is nothing fading about this outfit, I think we need a new phrase: bringing grey to life. I love the way you accessorised the dress: the sunnies, the hat, the jacket… Everything fits together so harmoniously.

I like the sound of bringing grey to life because I must admit I have always felt it rather dull.Thankyou for your thoughtful comments.

I too am not a big fan of grey but looking at you here in your grey dress I am thinking "wow, this grey looks fantastic". Maybe it is the right shade, or maybe it is the right accessories or most probably both of those, but this grey looks so interesting. As always, so stylish and elegant Jess!

Even though I don't wear much grey, I do like the darker shades like charcoal. This is such a cool dress and it works perfectly with your jacket!

Thankyou Patti, it was the shape of the dress rather than the colour that drew me to it originally. So glad to join Visible Monday.

I love the "elephant grey" color name. You are an exciting and Grand Explorer to me! I feel like one who rarely ventures outside of my village. 🙂

I adore the cut of that dress and how you have worn the light jacket and hat with it. Gorgeous. And Trippen is one of my favourite shoe brands. I enjoy seeing how you play in new realms. I also think of fade to grey in terms of grey hair, but my grey has the opposite effect.

I can never see you fading to grey Melanie, I am not surprised your grey hair has made you more visible, it is truly stunning.I agree with you on Trippen shoes, I feel these will not be my only pair.

I love the way this skirt is pulled up in the back. There is something quite Victorian about it that I just love. Same with your round glasses. Grey. Hmmm. Gotta admit that it's right up there with my most favorite non-colors black and white. Trippen eh? Must Google that right now.

Connie, I hadn't thought of the Victorian element but it does look like a bustle. The round sunnies are a little different for me but I quite like them.
