A Graduation and A Fashion Collection

The week before Christmas

my husband and I flew to

Melbourne for our son`s

Graduation .

This is one proud mother

with her clever, handsome son.

As someone from a small city,

the graduation ceremony was

quite the eyeopener.

RMIT University is one of

Australia`s largest and

on the  night there were

6000 graduates and

25,000 guests.

The ceremony was held

at the Etihad Sadium,

normally a football stadium.

The next day I was

fortunate to visit the

National Gallery of Victoria

for the Jean Paul Gaultier

exhibition.

The exhibition title of

The Fashion World of

Jean Paul Gaultier: From

the Sidewalk to the Catwalk

barely describes the vastness

of this collection.

Over 140 superbly crafted garments

were on show along with photographs,

sketches stage costumes, excerpts from

runway shows, film, television, concerts

and dance performances.

Needless to say my camera

was very busy and I have

included a few of my favourites.

The attention to detail

was stunning, I loved

the tule skirt with the

leather and denim

and the ballet shoes.

Top Hat, The Surrealists Collection

Haute Couture 2006-2007

This ensenble, comprises a crocodile

and silk crepe tail jacket, wool crepe pants.

This evening gown was simply stunning,

a taffeta gown with leopard skin

created with about 32,000 beads

and rhinestone claws, it took 1600

hours to make.

You get a glimpse of some

of the magnificent headwear

on some of the models.

I will finish with this

quote.

Wishing everyone

a Happy New Year.

These fashions are undenyable awesome, but you know, it's your stunning black flower necklace that made me go weak in the knees most of all (for reals! :)). You excel at rocking black and white, dear Jill, and constantly inspire me when it comes to wearing that chic, classic combo (thank you!).Tons of hugs & the very happiest of New Year's wishes!♥ Jessica *PS* Massive congratulations to your son on his graduation!

How wonderful that you got to watch your son's graduation ceremony and visit the museum as well! I agree, Gaultier's couture is breathtaking, and I'm sure it was moreso in person.Thank you for sharing with us ;-)Aliciaspashionista.com

We were so pleased we were able to spend the special day with our son. The fact that the exhibit was in Melbourne at the same time was a bonus for me, I usually only get to read about them, so I was so pleased to be able to share.

Thank you Sue, I too love the Phrynee Fisher mysteries. There is now a TV series set on the books, if it ever comes to Canada it is worth watching even only for the clothes, they are stunning.

Congratulations!!! How great for you all, Jilly! Know he'll do something spectacular with his life and continue to make you proud! Handsome guy, too! Clearly you had to be the most chic mum in the crowd. You look lovely in black and white! Wonderful necklace, too.Wish I'd been with you at the Gaultier exhibit. So much of what he's done has filtered back down to the streets and the likes of us, and back around again to where his inspirations originate. One of my faves! What a lovely way to end 2014 … Happy New Year to all of you!

Oh yes, you and would have had a ball, shame you are so far away. I agree even though much of his work is couture, design elements can be seen in so much.I hope my son finds a rewarding career, things pretty tight on the job front here so fingers crossed.Enjoy your New Year and thank you so much for all your support.
